+ Strategy Clarification

The combination of a structured process and your own skills and excellent facilitation made our strategic review workshop an undoubted success. As a team we are now clearer on our individual and collective objectives and we are looking forward to reaching our agreed vision for Viking Offshore Services. Graham Philip, CEO Viking Offshore Services

Our senior management team was faced with the challenge of preparing a three-year strategic view for the North Sea and Canadian Business. Thank you for your independent and incisive facilitation that enabled us to build quickly on the progress we had already made internally. It was revealing to have confirmed that with enough detailed thinking, even complex issues can be explained in a few simple but powerful principles. Ian Stevenson, Regional Vice President, Technip

The structured process for our strategy review and the effective facilitation generated clearly defined outcomes which was our objective for the day. Stewart Risk, CEO, Resource

The results of the three-day Strategy Review you facilitated for Santa Fe have been well received by our Head Office in Dallas. Starting with a “blank sheet” the team came away with twelve major directions for further study – valuable information in deciding the direction of our business. The senior managers and engineers you worked with are very experienced and have strong opinions. It is credit to you and them that the team came away with a thorough product in three days. Santa Fe is considering doing similar events in other regions. Roger K. De Freitas, Regional Manager, Santa Fe Drilling

Your facilitation of our strategy meeting was extremely helpful. These events can prove contentious at the best of times and your tactful but firm approach kept us on track. The many questions you posed were of great benefit in helping to focus and refine our thinking. I am pleased to recommend your services to others. Andy Wallis, Managing Director, BW Group plc

Your help and assistance has been valuable and much appreciated. The straightforward advice you gave us on our longer term strategy helped us question our plans and highlighted several areas where we needed to pay more attention. You helped us grasp the nettle and do what we now know we had to do in this highly competitive business. Your candid yet cordial nature was, and still is, much appreciated and the lasting effects of having employed your services continues to stand us in good stead. John A. Crawford, Chairman & Managing Director, Hayfield International

+ Protecting your investment – due diligence on people and systems

We have used your services to undertake three investigations of early stage technologies we have considered taking to market. The depth and breadth of your investigation and the quality of your insights has been most helpful. I should be happy to recommend your services to other investors and deal-makers. Mark Chapman, Executive deputy Chairman, China Wonder plc.

+ Mergers and Alliances

In a one day event Strategy Improvers helped us clearly identify the barriers standing in the way of even more effective integration of a recent acquisition. More importantly you assisted our management team in preparing a list of actions which should overcome most of those barriers. Thank you for your  incisive yet relaxed approach which enabled us to get maximum value from the time spent. Chris Dixon, Vice President – Operations & Maintenance Europe & West Africa, Sparrows Offshore Services Limited

Having used your services as a facilitator on three major projects (Pierce for Enterprise Oil, OKIOC for Shell and Claire for BP) I would be pleased to recommend your services to others. These projects all involved engaging people from disparate disciplines on complex issues. Your input and guidance helped us get the best from the teams, enabling us to concentrate on the deliverables and technical issues. Ian Pollard, Regional Manager, Dresser Kellogg Integrated Solutions

Your facilitation of the two-day event with the Santa Fe Magellan was most helpful. There were some tough issues to deal with but you managed to focus people’s attention on what has to be done rather than on the past. It was good to be reminded of how the basics of good communication and planning can make life easier when tough technical conditions confront us. It came through clearly that although an Operator and a Drilling Contractor have specific commercial objectives, on any installation we are and should act as, ONE team. Also, the balance between hard work and socialising, was just right. Dave Wilkinson, Senior Drilling Engineer, British Gas E & P

Thank you for facilitating the Vessel Healthcare Contract workshop with ourselves and Coflexip Stena Offshore. The contract had been operating quite successfully, but we considered there was scope for improvement. We are very pleased with the result of the day. We have an agreed action plan with actions shared between the two organisations and we all realised the need to maintain contact and measure progress. This exercise was time well spent, giving us the opportunity to discuss various ideas and to think as one team. Mike Crawford, General Manager, ABB Marine and Turbochargers Division.

Thank you for facilitating our Smoother Merger Workshop. Numerous excellent points were raised and we all have a clearer picture of what managers must do to make the integration work even more smoothly. Martin Nuttall, Operations Manager, Santa Fe Drilling.

+ Performance Improvement

We have now used your Performance Improvement Workshops three times with excellent results. On the first one we closed out 80% of all actions in six months and we’ve closed out 60% of actions in the other two in just three months! It was good to see people – even junior people – taking part in defining problems and then finding the solutions to them. This approach definitely works to achieve favourable and sustainable change in any team. Mike Crawford, General Manager, ABB Automation, Marine and Turbochargers

Thank you very much for facilitating what was a very informative Performance Improvement Day for our Business Development Team. We found 28 actions, some of them immediate, to help improve performance within our Business Development Department. Not only that, the detailed and open discussion you managed to draw out has helped prepare us to work together as an even more effective team. Once again, thank you for helping us achieve so much in just one day. Tim Sheehan, Business Development Manager, Coflexip Stena Offshore

Thanks for facilitating the 2-day Performance Improvement Workshop for the Engineering and Construction Team. The results were excellent. We came away with eleven major ways forward. More importantly, we started to see one another’s difficulties and the need for greater co-operation was brought home strongly. Well done on pulling together the efforts of the 24 (some very “strong-willed”) participants. John Kearney, Engineering Manager, Kvaerner Oil and Gas

After the two and a half-day workshop we came away with 26 ideas for enhancing our internal customer service and 39 actions for enhancing team-work and communication. The creativity and motivation generated was excellent. In addition, great value came from the realisation of the need for senior colleagues to be open about difficulties and to support one another. I’d be pleased to recommend the Performance Improvement Workshops to others. Brian Young, Vice President Procurement, Kvaerner Oil and Gas

Your independent and thoughtful style was a great help during our one-day Performance Improvement Workshop. It’s not easy bringing together very senior managers all with their strongly held views on the way forward. We came away with many actions but more importantly, we identified several serious bottlenecks to our progress: these are now being sorted. Derek McLeod, Finance Director, Global Marine U.K. Limited

Thank you for facilitating the Performance Improvement Workshop for onshore management and senior offshore personnel on the Glomar Arctic 3. The value in the workshop was in identifying hindrances to performance and putting in place actions to resolve them. Your skill in getting to the heart of the problems was invaluable. Chris Christie, Rig Manager, Glomar Arctic 3, Global Marine U.K. Limited

The way you facilitated our safety forum with contractor senior managers stimulated open, honest and fruitful discussion. As a result of the careful planning of the event together with our safety adviser we and our contractors have an even clearer picture of expectations and the way ahead. Many thanks. Dave Turner, BP SPU Subsea Operations Manager.

The Performance Improvement Days you did for us proved very helpful. We got some tough issues on the table and more importantly found solutions for most of them. Naturally, improvement is an ongoing process but the workshops gave us an excellent starting point and clear direction. Roy Arminshaw, Operations Manager, Maersk Curlew

+ Getting contracts back on track

Your facilitation of the two-day event with the Santa Fe Magellan was most helpful. Noble is very pleased with the work you did for us. The 14 nationalities on the Noble Al White have greatly benefited from your input, they are a team now. Our client has recently stated that they are the safest and most efficient team (they have 5 other rigs under contract), which is backed up by statistics. The people do realise that what seems like problems caused by cultural differences, are really problems caused by lack of respect for one another. We did follow-up after your 6 workshops and most of the crew reported significant improvements, which were mirrored by the operational and safety performance statistics. Cees van Diemen, Operations Manager (Mobile Rigs Europe) Noble Drilling

+ Energising the senior management team

The excellent “Round Robin” worked so well with the senior managers. The difference in working relations after the event was all but astonishing, as it somehow removed psychological barriers and relationship difficulties, which had been lurking under the surface for years, in a trice – as well as bringing about some notable changes in the way some people operated, which was the primary purpose of course! The most memorable change in one of our exec came about because, without any conspiracy, we all told him he never listened! He really took this on board. He hadn’t the slightest notion this was a big failing! Ian Heap, Commercial Manager, ABB Industrial Systems

+ Team building

During the Team Building Workshop for our Drilling Engineering Department there was a lot of lively discussion, which, with the help form yourself, was translated into solid actions. Such was the enthusiasm of those who attended that actions were implemented by individuals without further management steer within hours of leaving the workshop. The 47-point action plan continues to bear fruit, yielding performance benefits for KCAD and our clients and demonstrating the value that can be added by the utilisation of our services. KCAD Drilling Engineering Team Leader
